Lower Columbia College FIRST AID, CPR & BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Course Syllabus & Outline HLTH-105 A 1 Credit Fridays: 3:00PM to 4:50PM, HSB-106. Fall 2021 Required Textbooks (3): 1) Basic Life S... upport (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) 2)Heartsaver First/CPR/AED student workbook by AHA 3)Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens student workbook by AHA Textbooks are available at the LCC Bookstore. COURSE DESCRIPTION Instructs students in First Aid and adult, child, and infant CPR through the American heart Association for healthcare providers including AED training. Students will receive first aid and CPR certification with completion of this course. This course will also cover bloodborne pathogen training, which students will also receive certification in with the completion of the course. LEARNER OBJECTIVES During the completion of the course, students will:  Demonstrate proper CPR techniques as defined by the American Heart Association for adults, children, and infants.  Demonstrate proper emergency first aid techniques in simulated emergency situations.  Identify concepts associated with defining acceptable levels of risk relative to providing emergency first aid.  Identify risk reduction behaviors and actions relative to bloodborne and airborne pathogens. COURSE POLICIES 1. Attendance: You must complete your CPR/First Aid/BBP skills and testing during the designated dates and times. Special arrangements for CPR testing generally cannot be made. Missing a class may result in not becoming certified in BLS(CPR), First Aid, and/or BBP. 2. Any course work presented after the assigned due date will be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the instructor. 3. The studies in this course are serious. Some activities present a slight risk. No horseplay or distracting activity will be tolerated. Safety precautions will be strictly enforced. 4. If a student is concerned about the safety of an activity or their ability to cope with the activity, they may refuse to participate. Children are not permitted in the classroom during instruction. 6. Courtesy and respect for others is expected. Disrespect and rudeness will not be tolerated. 7. Cheating and plagiarism are not tolerated and will be cause for disciplinary action. 8. Keep all electronics put away during class. 9. Students must purchase the 3 required books to become certified in First Aid, CPR, and BBP. It is an American Heart Association rule that you must own the books during 2-year period of certification. Failure to have the books present in class will result in not becoming certified for First Aid, CPR, and/or BBP. This does not mean a pass/fail for the entire course.
