The report covered comprehensively the role nurses have to play and the need to change the nursing profession so as to align with the needs of the diversifying American population. The IOM advocated proposals centered on the nursing practice since the nursing profession has the prospective capacity to enact the desired changes in the healthcare system and represents the biggest proportion of the workforce in the health sector. The report recommended some proposals such as interprofessional collaborations and coordination, provision of affordable health care to both individuals and society as well as reward for health care quality rather than volume (Schroeder, 2019). The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was tasked in formulating policies and initiatives for the Future of Nursing and in 2010 they published their report œFuture of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.
