Employees Rights and Responsibilities ï‚·An employee ... has the right to a safe and healthful work environment. Providing a safe work environment is not only legally required but it is ethically responsible as well. Employees who are safe and do not fear injury throughout their normal day to day work will be more productive. An organization with a good safety protocol will reap the benefits in other areas. ï‚·Employees have the right to fair treatment and should not be discriminated against based on age, race, gender, sexual preference, disability, nationality, or any other protected category. This is a foundational right of employees in the United States and affords them relief from stressing over the potential for retaliation for any of the protected categories. Like the right to a safe work environment, this right is enshrined in several laws including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and The American with Disabilities Act. ï‚·Employees have a responsibility to report any acts of discrimination or sexual harassment to their supervisor or if that is not possible a member of the HR team. This is an important responsibility because members of management and the HR team cannot be everywhere at once and employees should be responsible for ensuring that their work environment is safe and free of discrimination or harassment.
