Using the organizational life cycle model, this company is somewhat into stage 2: collectivity. Greiner noted that each stage is about 4-8 years and this company has been around for ten years so that would put it right about the beginning to middle part of stage 2. The crisis this company has just overcome is that of leadership being needed which was handled by hiring an outsider to lead the change that is needed. The new change management consultant will help provide growth with clear direction for the transition to a learning company. B.  Differences between a traditional organization and a learning organization. In a traditional organization, new ideas and decision making come from the top down, more of a pyramid type structure. A traditional organization also has a low tolerance if an employee were to fail at a task. In a learning organization, the hierarchal levels are flattened, and decision making is passed on to employees and networking is done more laterally across different divisions and allows for flexibility.
