HU 250-09 Humanities and Culture Cultural Expression Purdue University Global HU 250-09 Humanities and Culture Cultural Expression Various types of cultural expression exist in our everyday ... lives. We might not even notice them as they have been so ingrained into the culture that one belongs to. These expressions can be seen as physical art, foods, music, traditional gatherings, or anything that helps to express or define a culture. The things that are important to me and the culture I was raised into are music, cooking and religion. I learned an appreciation for music from my dad and how to play guitar from my grandfather. My mom taught me how to cook and passed down family recipes to me. My religious beliefs have shaped who I am and how I live my life. Music has been an important part of my whole life. My dad raised me listening to classic rock bands like Boston and The Eagles. I loved all the classic guitar riffs that drove this music and it branched me out to listening to more modern music that had similar themes. I remember getting my first acoustic guitar on my sixteenth birthday. I wanted to play electric guitar, but I knew I had to build a foundation on acoustic first. My grandfather taught me a few chords and I was off. Once I had built that foundation, he let me borrow his electric guitar. This was a vintage hand made guitar from the 60s that was incredibly awesome to play. He recently passed and I became the owner of this guitar.
