He has developed the sudden onset of a foreign body sensation and is complaining of severe pain in the left eye. He has attempted to wash out the eye on several occasions but has not improved. The patient is complaining of intense pain and has difficulty opening his eye. Penlight examination administer topical proparacaine 5) A 35-year-old female with a history of hypothyroidism has developed bilateral red eyes. The patient works as an elementary school teacher. She refers that there has been an outbreak of a respiratory illness among his students characterized by fevers and pharyngitis. She personally hasn't had any respiratory symptoms. Initially, her left eye became affected and 48 hours later the right. Her symptoms include conjunctival injection and mucousy discharge which seems to be more prominent in the mornings. The patient describes this as "pus". Eye exam is shown below (see Figure). avoidance of any topical agents 6) A 61-year-old female with history of hyperlipidemia and farsightedness has developed dyspeptic symptoms including epigastric discomfort and bloating. She started taking oral famotidine overthe-counter 3 days ago. On Saturday she decided to go camping with her three grandchildren to a state park away from the city. That night she was complaining of seeing halos around lights. On Sunday morning she woke up with decreased vision from the left eye, severe eye pain, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.
