Literacy_Learning_Centers.docx(1) ECE-350 Literacy Learning Centers We will be having literacy centers in class for five genres of literature picture books, fabl... es and fairy tales, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and science fiction. The following will be a handout for the parents that are going to be volunteering with the class and each volunteer will have a learning center they are in charge of. The objective of these learning centers will be that the students will be able to read an entire book with some help and be able to recount key details with little to no help or prompting. The materials at each learning center will be drawing paper, writing paper, writing utensils, drawing utensils and the book they are going to read. The next part will be the directions for the volunteers at each station. Volunteers must make sure to be encouraging, supportive, and keep a positive attitude. You will read the book with the student but make sure to have them read the majority of it on their own. Step in when they ask for help or you notice that they are struggling on a word. Also, when helping students try not to give them the answer but rather try and push them in the right direction. While they are reading make sure to ask them questions about the book to make sure they™re understanding the book. Once they are done reading, ask them questions more questions about the book.
