Sexual health and sexually transmitted infections are not topics commonly discussed in regular social settings and are limited in educational settings. While the CDC and various organizations have informative STI materials, there is not any active distribution of the education other than being available on a website. It can also be concluded that the public is not well informed or gives much thought to the subject matter. It follows that the social determinant of health is a consequence of these factors. There is a lack of documented consumption of publicly available STI education resources in Washtenaw county involving disease processes, prevention, and treatment. Summary of How the Proposed Policy will Address the SDOH in My Community The proposed policy is to increase access to active education regarding sexually transmitted infections among young adults attending universities in Washtenaw county. This policy involves the addition of a STI education curriculum during orientation for both universities.
