As a Nurse Educator, I have been tasked with designing the BSN courses for the first year of the nursing program for students who have completed the prerequisites requirements. The course currently being developed is titled Fundamentals of Nursing. This course is designed to be the foundation from which students will build upon in the BSN program and will be the first course students initially take course in the programs sequence of courses. Based on the entrance exam, learning styles are evenly distributed between auditory, visual, and kinesthetic for the first group of students. This course will be structured to meet the needs of the various learning styles, encourage critical thinking, while forming the foundation for future nursing courses. This course will be designed for nursing student to form a base for understanding the nursing process, hierarchy of basic human needs, wholistic care, the primary nursing theorists and theory, basic nursing care and skills necessary for the clinical setting.
