Through an examination of the effect of a cultural challenge and reflection on the transformationfrom nurse to educator, a deeper understanding of the ANEs rolewithin the academic setting emerges. Roles and Responsibilities Academic nurse educators (ANE) teach nursing students at all levels and in a variety of academic institutes (Oermann & Frank, 2018). Although there is diversity between institutions and levels of nursing degrees, the role of the contemporary ANE will focus on teaching, scholarship, and service to the organization and community (Bastable, 2019). Teaching nursing education is a multifaceted endeavor that includes classroom instruction, simulation and skills lab, and clinical education. The ANE must have evidence-based knowledge on how to guide nursing students to integrate theory into clinical practice. By having a deeper understanding of teaching methods, student learning styles, and methods for evaluating student learning, ANEs are better prepared to facilitate learner development and help students meet core competencies.
