10.docx CPSS/405 DQ Questions Studies and research shows that sex offenders and sex crimes is not a "one size fits all" type of situation. Though sex crimes share the same characteristics, motivati... on and offenders differ. Although there is some form of control behind rape, it's not always the primary driver. Rapist falls into four typologies: compensatory, sadistic, power/control, and opportunistic. A rapist with compensatory typologies crimes is sexually motivated. Offenders use enough force to achieve sexual gratification, but no more than that, and may feel inadequate. The sadist rapist is also sexually motivated, they receive sexual gratification through pain and fear, they're often psychotic and their acts may lead to murder. Rapist seeking power and control are generally not motivated by sex. They're aggressive and want power and dominance over their victims. They're generally angry and humiliate their victims. The opportunist rapist is not motivated by sex, but rather impulse, and have poor impulse control. they seek adventure and commit other offenses in the process of the assault. Some victims may experience Rape Trauma Syndrome (RTS) which is a lot like PTSD. Researchers believe that during this time rape victims go through six stages: denial, anger, grief, depression, taking action, and acceptance. Terry, K. J. (20120614).
