DQ2.docx What are four possible rationales for declassifying a child currently in special education? œSpecial education has sometimes been criticized as a one-way street down which it™s relativel... y easy to send children ¦ but they rarely return (Hara, 1998). However, a number of students with disabilities discontinue their special education programs. Declassifying a child who is currently in special education means that they no longer require special education services. They may have accomplished all their IEP goals or scored average in various assessments. They are multiple reasons why a child can be declassified from his or her special education program. Below is a list of four possible rationales: 1. The child shows no growth or improvements. 2. Discovery for another possible cause of disability due to new diagnostic evaluations 3. The parents do not want them in their schools™ special education program, or the child does not want to remain in the program. 4. The parents decide to home school. Some students leave special education because of circumstances or for personal reasons. Students who are declassified can still be provided with declassification support services for up to one year.
