ANTIPSYCHOTIC THERAPY INTRODUCTION Delusional disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder can be quite devastating to affected individuals, their families, and ecosystems. Many people with... these illnesses do quite well and can manage a quality life with proper treatment. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5, 2013), offered this information on the criteria for these three disorders, (delusional, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder). The severity may be determined from several forceful clinical signs, and it these categorizations need to be decided on an individual basis (DSM-5, 2013). Some of the manifestations that determine the severity are a delusion, hallucination, Impairment in work, social relations, depression and alteration in self-care (DSM-5, 2013). Arciniegas (2015) have discussed the neurological dimension of psychosis. Psychotic illness includes symptoms of “abnormal psychomotor behaviors, negative symptoms, cognitive impairments, and emotional disturbances” which mostly originated from a neurological base. The purpose of this paper is to investigate antipsychotic therapies and examine the assessment and treatment of psychosis and schizophrenia with patients that clinician encounters while reflecting on legal implications of these therapies.
