Majority of hospitals try to meet the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) recommendations and requirements for making sure that patient safety and quality standards are being met. Without meeting these requirements there is a possibility that the hospital would not be reimbursed for services rendered. Therefore, when patient safety and/or quality are being impacted within a hospital, the hospital will try to find ways to improve. By doing this a hospital will evaluate the problem and look for ways to correct it. There are two ways that a hospital can do this: Appreciative inquiry and SWOT analysis. Appreciative inquiry starts with collecting personal experiences to look for understanding and this enables seeing new perspectives and possibilities in a situation (Whittaker et al., 2017). SWOT analysis focuses on existing strengths that are used to create positive change (Roberson, 2019) Appreciative Inquiry Discovery and Dream Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a model that engages stakeholders to affect change within an organization, unit, or department. AI focuses on what is positive or good and builds upon that (Martin et al., 2016).
