Conditions of Participation (CoPs) and Conditions for Coverage (CfCs) that healthcare organizations are required to meet in order to take part in Medicare and Medicaid programs (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2020). The associated standards ensure the health and safety needs of beneficiaries are met and improvements can be made in the quality of care they receive. There are numerous overarching standards in healthcare regulation, though differences exist depending on the practice setting. To expand on this, I examined two factors that are relevant in two very different practice settings, Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs) and Community Mental Health Clinics (CMHCs). These two factors are in regard to Staff Qualifications and Patient Rights. Practice Settings and Factors The two practice settings I analyzed are LTCFs, which include both skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nursing facilities (NFs), and CMHCs. LTCFs provide skilled nursing care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care, or rehabilitation services for the rehabilitation of injured, disabled, or sick persons, and is not primarily for the care and treatment of mental diseases (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2020).
