This paper will address the infectious disease ideology and pinpoint some of the causative factors. More specifically this paper will focus on community acquired pneumonia and the disease process. Aside from this the effect that this disease have on individual determinants of health will be discussed and the risk of contracting pneumonia. The epidemiological process will be included to gain a deeper understanding of this disease. Lastly the role of the nurse practitioner in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of community-acquired pneumonia will be discussed. According to the CDC, pneumonia is a lung infection and it can range from mild to severe and can affect more than 250,000 people each year, of which about 50,000 die from this. (CDC, 2020). There are a few types of pneumonias that occur, for example healthcare-associated pneumonia, ventilator-associated pneumonia and lastly Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is when a person develops pneumonia in a community rather than in a hospital.
