Maria has been living with her daughter fo... r the past 6 years. She has never gone into the basement of the house. When Marias children were younger they could not understand why their mother would not like to be in tight spaces or alone at home. She refuses to take the elevator when shes in buildings, her family did not understand. Maria has cancelled family vacations so she is not in an airplane. Her family at this point thinks it is becoming annoying that they either have to cancel plans or always have to make accommodations for her. Now, Maria has decided to sit her family down to ask for help in seeking medical attention. The day comes, Maria gathers all her five children to discuss her medical conditions. She brings up the times she refused to get in an elevator at the mall or why she has cancelled previous family vacations. She starts to speak up about a traumatic event from when she was just 13 years of age and her older sister tried to suffocate her with a pillow. She remembers having trouble breathing and was trying to gasp for air. Her sister started to freak out and yelled for help as she seen Maria was out of breath. She was anxious and in shock and could not get a single word out. Maria mentions how any little thing would upset her sister and she would take her anger out on Maria.
