The healthcare system consists of services provided by medical professionals to diagnose, treat, and prevent mental and physical illness and injury. The system also encompasses a wide range of related sectors, such as insurance, pharmaceuticals and health information technology” (Ballotpedia.org, n.d., para 3). As you can see there is a lot of contribution from the government to develop health care policies. One health care policy I would like to discuss is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is better known to most as “HIPAA.” Almost everyone is familiar with HIPAA due to it being applied to such a vast number or health care requirements. Every time an individual is seen by a physician or receives any type of health care treatment it is required to sign a form regarding HIPAA and this form explains the clients rights to them.
