Now nurses implement evidence based practice, collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to promote the health of their patients, and strive to continuously further their education Evolution of Nursing and its Scope of Practice In the mid 1800s, Florence Nightingale shifted the priorities of nursing to focus on health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention as she correlated the conditions of her patients environment to their health (Whitney, 2018). Nonetheless, these fundamental concepts Nightingale implemented allowed her to minimize mortality rate from 42.7% to 2.2% in only a period of 6 months (Whitney, 2018).
