There are mu... ltiple factors that medical professionals determine a person to be healthy. Society thinks of health as a well-being of the physical, mental, spiritual and social state of being of the individual. This entails the person is free of disease, functioning without pain or illness, and has the ability of recover from an illness or disease like the common cold within a reasonable time frame. Health-Illness Continuum The Health-Illness Continuum was a concept first proposed by Dr. Travis in 1972 where he stated, œwellness concepts as well-being to include mental and emotional health, as well as the presence or absence of illness (Wickramarathne, P., Phuoc, J., & Albattat, A., 2020). It was a graphic illustration of wellness and made up of arrows in different directions. The arrows on the right of the illustration shows degree of wellness through how a person can achieve wellness through growth, education, and awareness. The left arrows states decline in health of a person through illness observed through disability, signs, and symptoms. Dr. Travis™s model illustrates how a person is in constant state of wellness and disease and it is not a constant. The middle of the illustration represents a neutral state in well-being in relation to their treatment.
