The NF lands is a portion of a total area of 440 acres of land needed for the future private industry development of geothermal resources. Other lands include 160 acres of public lands within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Battle Mountain District overseen by the BLM Tonopah Field Office, and 120 acres of private lands. Great American Energy communicated that they would develop a 12-megawatt binary power plant on the private and public land since the FS proposed lease land is within an Inventories Roadless Area (IRA).
