Co... untry of choice The healthcare system of Switzerland will be compared to that of the US in this task. The healthcare systems of the countries are similar due to a government mandated healthcare coverage for all citizens (U.S. Affordable Care Act) with requirements that all insurance providers offer coverage for necessary medical care. Government regulates the healthcare system and premiums are offered based on individual incomes (Whats the difference between the US healthcare system and Switzerlands? 2017). Despite those similarities, there are great differences noted between the two systems. According to the Common Wealth Fund, (n.d.), “ Mandatory health insurance (MHI) is universal. Insurance policies typically apply to the individual, are not sponsored by employers, and must be purchased separately for dependents. There are virtually no uninsured residents” (para. 5). Compared to the U.S most people are insured through employment and government assistance even though in 2014, state and federally administered health insurance marketplaces were established to provide additional access to private insurance coverage. And in the first quarter of 2016, 27.3 million individuals remained uninsured in the U.S (The U.S. Health Care System (n.d.)).
