SPE 300 Teacher Interview and Observation.docx Teacher Interview and Observation SPE/300 My observation took place at a Douglas County High School in Mrs. Brice™s special education class.Mrs.St... . Brice has been teaching for 20 plus years. She began her educational career as a paraprofessional in the same classroom in which she currently teaches in. She currently teaches science, social skills and math. Mrs.St. Brice believes that a teacher must have the ability to build relationships with students, maintain a consistent, respectful, and safe learning environment in the classroom, and operate as a professional associate within a team setting. Mrs. St. Brice™sclassroom consisted of 9 students that ranged from the ages of 13-16. There were 2 females and 7 males in her classroom. The students in her classroom are on a 3rd-5th academic level. On this day Mrs.St. Brice was teaching a lesson on the water cycle. She began her lesson with a teacher- centered instruction by using the Smartboard to display the first part of the lesson. Students were quiet and attentive, she had full control of the classroom and its activities. Students didn™t miss any important information or instructions because of her classroom management skills. She clearly stated what it was they were about to do and what she would be looking for after the activity was completed. As I observed her interactions with the students, I noticed how attentive and patient she was with each student. Not one student™s individual needs or questions went untouched.
