assessment3__fp2000 Freedom and Authority Ethics Capella University Government Relation With the Individual Now more than ever it is detrimental for us to assess the relationship we have with... our government and the ethical basis for their existence. As we have learned in ethics, trust in an organization is the foundation for business, investors, revenue and thus for existence (Schoeman, 2014). This lack of trust is not something new, however we face new challenges in the way our government violates that trust. Wealth inequality, exploitation and stealing of land, police brutality, pandemics and racism have shaken the relations we have with our government. Most importantly we are at a pivotal point in history, in which it is our responsibility to ensure we have a planet world and protect our environment. This modern social issue can be dissected through the lenses of our social contracts. Philosophers such as Hobb™s, Locke and Rousseau have become infamous for studying such feats. With influence from Hobb™s, the modern view of this relationship with government often reflects the views of Locke and Rousseau in which we call for a social contract and general will of the citizens to be represented by the sovereign power at hand. The social contract is written with the conditions that the government protects and serves all of its people. When these conditions are not upheld, the contract needs further analysis.
