In healthcare, spirituality is identified with encountering a well-established sense of meaning and purpose in life, together with a sense of belonging; it is about acceptance, integration and wholeness (Sheldon, 2008). According to Harvey (2006), “Spirituality is about oneness, oneness with oneself, oneness with people in our immediate environment, oneness with family, oneness with friends, colleagues, classmates, associates, strangers” (p. 33). In order for health care providers to be able to attend to the patients spiritual needs, they must first be able to attend to their own spiritual needs. A health care worker can prepare oneself to address spirituality in health situations by involving oneself in regular quiet time (prayer, self-reflection, meditation), adequate study of religious and/or spiritual material, engaging in community-based religious organization.
