Spring, our school district holds an event known as the Empty Bowls Festival. As part of this event, a district-wide food drive is held to collect nonperishable food items for the local food bank. In order to promote the event within the district, a competition is held between all elementary schools and all secondary schools, with the schools in each category who collect the most items receiving a trophy to keep until the next year. In previous years, Nelson Middle School has only collected items through the Visual Arts classes, resulting in collection averages of around 300 items. Our goal for this year is to increase the amount of items collected by partnering with Student Council and promoting the event as a school wide event by offering prizes for the top three collecting classes in each grade level. Messages The messages to be sent for the promotion of the Empty Bowls Food Drive will need to include the start date and the end date for the event. To help students and community members participate in the event, a list of suggested items for donation will also be included. Another important item to be included with the initial messages promoting the event will be the prizes for winning classrooms. Additionally, messages will be sent throughout the competition.
