Literacy Narrative task       Literacy Narrative   Western Governors University Literacy Narrative: My Literacy Experience The literary event that affected me the most and had ... the greatest influence on me was during my junior year in high school. We were tasked with either writing about a historical event or to recite an address that had to do with a historical event. I chose the Gettysburg Address for its significance during the Civil War, which would have torn this great country apart. I studied and recited it word for word, as I still do to this day. I find it to be very inspirational. I found the memorization of the address to be difficult, but was well worth the effort. It has stayed with me all these years. It was one of the reasons that I decided to go into the military. I felt that protecting my country was just one way for me keep the values that I learned while studying history and the recitation of the Gettysburg Address was one way to keep it alive in my life and mind. I believe that if we should listen to the meaning once again today, it would help this country to regain its great prominence in the world. As our leaders, the greatest way for them to learn is to listen to the voices of the people again. Instead they listen to the voices of greed and power and stand on the backs of the working person to get what they seek for themselves instead of the country.
