School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Capella University NHS-FPX6004: Healthcare Law and Policy Professor C... ox 44348 To the Director of Quality and Safety, After careful review of quality benchmarks regarding chest pain management in the Emergency department, there is evidence that there is room for improvement and areas of great strength when caring for patients with chest pain. Benchmark criteria for chest pain are important key indicators of quality patient care and safety. The facility is a 28-bed emergency department, non-trauma center, 150 bed facility and the community is very diverse population with a high concentration of low socio-economic standing. Facility also has no interventional cardiology or interventionists. Dashboard Benchmark Evaluation Chest pain can be many things but treating that chest pain appropriately and immediately is imperative for the safety of all patients. Benchmarks that are missed like door to EKG, aspirin, door to transfer, and/or balloon time could possibly delay treatment for STEMIS (ST elevated myocardial infarction, ie heart attack) and other cardiac problems (Lee, et al., 2019). The benchmark for door to EKG times is less than ten minutes and currently times are greater than 12 minutes, the improvements in this figure alone, will help to bring the rest of the figures within range, as well as it prioritizes patient safety having EKGs done immediately.
