Susan also has a full-time job. She seems very driven and goal-oriented, but she is also in the dark about many things. This trait has caused her to make many undesirable choices including that of pursuing her degree in psychology. She selected that career path because she was captivated with handsome and successful psychologist who was introduced to her through a mutual friend. Susan didnt have a comprehension about a career in psychology. She made assumptions that it was the ideal field to pursue a degree in. A tendency of creating a positive impression based on other positive ascriptions is called the “Halo Effect”. This is evident in this case study. Susan concluded that just because the handsome psychologist drove a luxury vehicle and posed a confident demeanor a career in psychology would reward her similar advantages. According to Baumeister & Bushman (2017), the halo effect claims someones attractiveness can impact how eloquent they are to others, results in administering other positive characteristics to the individual such as intelligence, refinement or financially stable.
