This may seem fairly obvious when putting together a database for a... family reunion, since everyone is part of the same family, but there are still differences and similarities, even with family. In a relational database, data is stored in columns and rows making up tables. Each table has one or more category columns that hold specific information such as the name of a relative. Each row has a unique set of data that corresponds with the column, such as a phone number. A relational database can have information pulled or sorted, in the form of reports, without having to rearrange the data in the tables. There are six database objects found within Microsoft Access. Tables are made up of rows and columns and are used to sort and organize data. Queries are tools that allow users to extract and examine data from multiple tables. Forms are how data is added, deleted or edited in a database. A form for the family reunion, for example might ask for things like a name, phone number or current address. Reports can display data according to rules provided by the user. For example, if you wanted to see who drove the furthest, you could run a report of everyones home address. Macros are automated functions inside of a database, they can make tasks easier to complete by breaking down a bunch of different keystrokes into a single button.
