The residents of Trinidad a... nd Tobago were screened for many types of Salmonella infection. Besides being screened for the obvious, they were also screened for Typhimurium, Enteritidis and other Salmonella infections. The samples were of elderly men, women, and children. There was a huge public concern when not just locals, but tourist were also coming down with it. With numbers rising at an alarming rate, it was crunch time to figure out the basics of who, what, when, where and how this infection was spreading so quickly. B. A social determinant would be the population, they are essentially the ones who are preparing the food that is being consumed. Another social determinant is geographical location, ten farmers in both Tobago and Trinidad were providing eggs that were being consumed. The farms had no bacterial inspections or surveillance to make sure the eggs that were being supplied, were safe for the residents to eat. Six our ten farms were considered dangerous and not sanitary. A third social determinant would be education, making sure the residents can understand what it is they should be doing to prevent getting Salmonella. If the community can understand the importance of this illness and how to properly prevent it, it will allow them to be more aware of the right way to handle and prepare the food they consume. C.
