EDUC 5210 Unit 5 Discussion Abstract This week in our discussion, we are asked to select two structures from Table 2.1 Key functions of areas of the brain (Schunk text, p38) and share how the funct... ions of these structures are important in our classrooms. We were asked to explain how these two brain structures influence our teaching approach, choice of delivery, or classroom management. Selection As a middle school educator, the two major brain structures that have has an impact on my classroom are Hippocampus and the frontal lobe. The other brain structures deal with motor skills and within my class, I am not asking them to do anything physical. I do tell my students that it is important for them to sit up and have good postures because they do not develop kinks or knots in their neurons housed in their spinal cord. When these neurons are bent it is like a water hose that is bent water is not able to flow thru it. This is true when students are bent over their desks. A knot is established in the neurons causing a lack of communication between the different sections of the body and the brain.
