Mechanical Engineering > Lab Report > The City College of New York, CUNY - ME 461lab 7 jominy End-Quench Test (All)
Objective: The objective of this experiment was to study the measurement of hardenability of a steel, which is a measure of the capacity of the steel to harden in depth under a given set of conditio... ns. We also looked at the effects of compositions of the steels. Equipment and Materials: - Rockwell Hardness Tester - Quenching system for Jominy test - Steel 1018, 1042, 1095, 4140 and 4340 Experimental Procedure: The lab begun with a steel sample that had been heating in a furnace for an hour. Afterwards, the lab technician took the sample out the furnace and put in the quenching apparatus to demonstrate the cooling process. Then, we took hardness measurements of provided steel samples every 1/16th inch for 1 inch. After 1 inch, we took hardness measurements every 1/4th inch for the next inch, for a total of 20 measurements across 2 inches [Show More]
