Mechanical Engineering > Lab Report > Quenching and Tempering of Steel The City College of New York, CUNYME 461lab 8. (All)
Introduction The goal of this experiment is to study the effects of quenching and tempering on the mechanical properties and microstructure of plain carbon eutectoid steel. Equipment - Rockwell Ha... rdness tester - Furnaces - 4 AISI 1095 steel samples Procedure Prior to the start of the lab experiment, 3 steel specimens were placed in their own furnaces for heat treatment. After 45 minutes elapsed, we removed them and quenched them, then took hardness measurements for the samples. Afterwards, we placed each sample into their separate furnaces at different temperatures for tempering; one specimen was tempered at 205 oC, the second was tempered at 360 oC, and the last one was tempered at 540 oC. After another 45 minutes, we removed the specimens from their furnaces and allowed them to cool before taking final hardness measurements. Results [Show More]
