The coding department is centralized usually in one space that services sometimes many doctors or clinics. It requires that charts be delivered by a courier to them so that they can do their work. This process can take days sometimes weeks depending on where the paper chart is. This holds up the billing process and can possibly hold up other departments needing the chart. Having an electric health record (EHR) would drastically improve this process by saving time. It will also allow other departments to do their work and the coding department will be able to do theirs without the wait time.
