Oct 27, 2019Oct 27 at 10:04am Manage Discussion Entry This week my schedule for clinical is as follows: Monday 8am-5pm, Tuesday 8am-5pm, and Wednesday 8am-5pm. One clinical goal I have this week is... to be able to check off one of my acute care pediatric competencies. Another clinical goal I have this week is to check off one competency pertaining to adult to older adult chronic care competency. I believe I have opportunities to fulfill both competencies because my preceptor sees a lot of patients in a day. In a typical day my preceptor and I see anywhere from 13-17 patients in a day. My preceptor also sees patients of all ages so I believe I have the potential to see both an acute care pediatric patient and also an adult to older adult chronic care patient. Barriers to my clinical site is that we may not have any acute care pediatric patients scheduled the days I am at my clinical site. We have a lot of chronic adult and older adult patients come in every day, however when it comes to acute care it just depends on the day and the patients’ needs. Although, we are getting into flu season and kids back in school; therefore, there may be opportunity to see an acute pediatric patient this week. Good luck to everyone in week 1! I would like to become more comfortable diagnosing and treating upper respiratory infections, sinusitis, and pharyngitis in pediatrics, as this is the time of year we will be seeing a lot of this in clinic. The family practice clinic where I am in clinical sees a large number of children including those less than a year old. The only barrier I may see this week and the weeks to come, is this is a family practice clinic and there are more adult patients at the clinic than pediatric patients. I have seen and logged many pediatric patients from my previous clinicals. I have been with my preceptor in previous clinical rotations, and she is excellent at helping me seek out every opportunity available during clinical. She allows me to formulate a treatment plan, then discusses alternative options of treatment with me should they be needed [Show More]
