Stimulants are the first-line treatment of ADHD symptoms. Over 2/3 of individuals diagnosed with ADHD are prescribed stimulants. This literature review provides summary of findings, constructs, theories, patterns, themes, conflicts, and gaps in literature of 5 chosen articles related to ADHD stimulant use medications, as well as alternatives to stimulant use. Mindfulness, complementary and alternative medications (CAM), psychoeducation (PE), are the alternatives discussed in this literature review. Piper and Board examined the increased stimulant use trends within each state and found that Alabama and Louisiana had the highest increase.
