In terms of imag... es. Eg, if your asked to count the number of Windows in your house, you would visualise your houses rooms. What is acoustic encoding? In terms of sound eg your favourite song. What is semantic encoding? I'm terms of meaning. Your ability to understand and use words and concepts. What is tactile encoding? What things feel like to touch. What is olfactory encoding? What things smell like. What is storage? Holding info in short or long term memory. What is retrieval? Accessing info that has been stored in your brain and being able to use it. What is recognition? Eg seeing someone and being able to identify them or recognising the answer in a multiple choice question. What is cued recall? When you try to remember a piece of information and your given a clue then allowing you to remember. What is free recall? When you retrieve information at all without cues. What are the 3 types of LTM? episodic, semantic, procedural What is an episodic memory? Memories for events from your life, things you've done/ experienced that are personal to you. May recall if you was there, who else was there, feelings, smells, tastes etc. Memories are 'time stamped'. It is a declarative memory. What is a declarative memory? Requires conscious thought. Give an example of an episodic memory. Your 6th birthday. What is a semantic memory? Meaning of everything you know. Not time stamped. Declaritive memory. Give an example of a semantic memory. Capital cities, what a spade is for. What is a procedural memory? Muscle memory. How to physically do something without having to consciously think about it. Non declarative. Give an example of a procedural memory. How to ride a bike, tie shoelaces. Who proposed the multi-store model of memory? Atkinson and Shiffrin What is the MSM? Environmental stimulus goes to sensory memory store. If you par attention, it goes into your STM. If you rehearse this information, it will be transferred to LTM. LTM can be retrieved back to STM.
