The relationship developed between patient and caregiver is strong and would suggest that arrangements would be made however, as his nurse in this predicament, I would have to decline his request professionally. I would explain that it would be both unethical and unprofessional of me to come between him and his wife. As a nurse, it is my responsibility to remain professional, competent, and compassionate in any situation.
