(Berger,2016) Most developmental psychologists use theories to explain trends and stages in life, In this essay, I will be referencing the Psychoanalytical theory of Human Development more specifically, the theories of both Erik Erikson and Sigmund Freud to give advice to a six- month pregnant woman and a postpartum mother. The Psychoanalytical theory of development holds that irrational, unconscious drives and motives often originating in childhood, is the basis of human behavior. (Berger,2016) The things that happen to people during childhood can contribute to the way they later function as adults. In advising a six- month pregnant woman, it is important to highlight the changes taking place as she enters her third trimester in pregnancy. At the beginning of the third trimester, her baby™s eyes partially open, the baby kicks and stretches, the baby gains weight and the baby is able to detect light.
