Within the medical field technology plays a huge role with communication, diagnostic tools such as Magnetic resonance imaging and computerized tomography and documentation of the patients care. However, technology can negatively affect patient care as well as patient privacy. Such as delaying care due to increased demands on healthcare providers with electronic healthcare records or increased risk for breach of patient records. HIPAA, Legal, and Regulatory Discussion This is why HIPAA was introduced, HIPAA or Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act is a federal law that was created in 1996 used to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the knowledge or consent of the patient. There are administrative safeguards that are required for the protection of electronic records such as polices, security management process, security responsibilities and security incident procedures. Some administrative safeguards are also required such as password management policy and procedure and social medial policy.
