RiskEvaluationandPatientSafety_Farley_week5.docx Risk Evaluation and Patient Safety Related to Emergency Preparedness Chamberlain University NR544 Risk Evaluation and Patient Safety Related to E... mergency Preparedness Natural disasters can occur at any time and in any place. In 2019, there were 101 Presidentially declared major disasters in the United States and 288 in the first 10 months of 2020 (FEMA Declared Disaster, 2020). Disasters can come in many forms, including fires, devastating weather events, earthquakes, and pandemics (FEMA Declared Disaster, 2020). Older adults and other vulnerable populations are at higher risk for negative outcomes (Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults, 2018).
