Young women who work in higher education face bigger challenges than men who are working in Higher education. They tend to make it difficult for young women, especially those who are working lower paying jobs as well as being the only source of income, to keep up with the cost of living in the United States. The challenges of a woman working in higher education comes with the stigma of men supposing to be the breadwinners of the home, not be qualified because they are a female, and becoming pregnant. Getting Married The stigma of women in higher education and likely to getting married leading to dropping out of the work force is because the husbands/men are commonly known to be the breadwinners of the home. In todays society, it isnt as uncommon for women to be the bread winners in the home. And in some places, it is encouraged for women to be independent and provide for themselves and not needing a man to provide for them. A statistic from the Centers of American Progress showed that in 1976 only 56.3 percent of mothers worked for pay, compared to 2017 where it was 69.6 percent of mothers.
