SFT works to help the family achieve their goals and change dysfunctional behaviors (Goldenberg et al., 2016). There are many effective strategies and approaches within Strategic Family Therapy that could benefit the Vargas family such as contributions from Jay Haley, the MRI style approach, and the Milan style approach.  Jay Haley Approach Jay Haley has made significant contributions to the field of family therapy and the strategic family therapy theory (Price, 2007). He has written numerous books and articles about strategic family therapy (Price, 2007). Haley would approach the problems in the Vargas family by creating a specific goal for him to achieve as a therapist (Price, 2007). The goal would be short-term and something that the family accepts (Price, 2007). He would also believe that it is the therapist's job to evaluate the progress of the family and the needs of the family and would take time to evaluate the family™s progress from one session to the next as well as a whole (Price, 2007).
