Many fac... tors need to be considered when deciding an appropriate dosage form in pediatric patients. Age and stage of development along with the severity of the illness being treated are 2 important factors. If swallowing is not an issue, then the oral route is always the most preferred if the mediation can be administered in that form. In situations where a medication needs to be rapidly absorbed or swallowing is an issue then the parental route would be most appropriate. This holds the same for adult patients as well. Oral dosages are always preferred because they are less invasive and most of the time convenient and less expensive. Regardless of the form of the medication, pediatric dosages need to be calculated based of weight and in order to ensure that the correct amount of the drug is being administered(Nunn & Williams, 2005). 2.What are the processes involved in disintegration and dissolution? Disintegration and dissolution are two common processes used to breakdown the molecular forces that hold substances together and are done to improve solubility and bioavailability. Disintegration is when a substance is broken into tiny fragments and is only used on solid substances. This leads to improved solubility. Dissolution occurs when the substance is placed in a solvent to dissolve and a solution is formed.
