Examining_Social_Psychology.docx Examining Social Psychology PSY/400 Examining Social Psychology Philip Zimbardo once said, œHuman behavior is incredibly pliable, plastic. It goes without sa... ying, people are social creatures. We possess a need to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, a group. This need often controls how we think. It molds those thoughts into behavior; and behavior determines who we are or will be. Human behavior is influenced by social situations and other people.In his famous study The Stanford Prison Experiment, Zimbardos research illustrated how substantial the impact of social influence can beon an individuals behavioral response. My intentions with this paper are to explain in detail the definition of social psychology, discuss the application of social psychology in the prison system, and then provide an example of how social research is beneficial within prison system. Defining Social Psychology Social psychology uses scientific approaches to understand and interpret how the perceptions, emotions, and behavior of individual people are affected by the real, assumed, or inferred presence of other fellow humans(Fiske, 2018). Social psychologists try to explain how other people influence our thoughts, feelings, and behavior; how we form impressions of other people; and why stereotypes and prejudice flourish.To take this definition a step further, social influence is not the only factor contributingto the understanding of behavior, social perception and social interact. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
