The importance of using valuable, credible information in providing evidence-based practice cannot be understated. For over 150 years, the HMD has been utilizing independent committees to gather information from multiple sources, ensuring the integrity of their reports. As nurses, we can be confident that the data we use from the HMD reports is formulated using the highest standards of scientific and technical quality and the information is independent, objective and non-partisan (NASEM, 2020). A resounding theme across the three HMD reports in the week 5 assignment that directly effect bedside nursing care at Jupiter Medical Center (JMC) are recommendations for service excellence andthe quality improvement process.These recommendations put the emphasis on providing patient-centered care using evidence-based data that is safe, effective, timely and equitable. In order to provide care to this standard, health organizations, such as JMC, must put into place shared governance utilizing councils and committees that encourage nurses to work as part of interdisciplinary teams that apply evidence to health care delivery using core competencies and quality indicators.
