Why I Selected Vaccination Vaccines are a hot button subject in the United states of America and have bee... n for quite some time. Tales of children with polio are reflected in movies and history books. News stories about outbreaks of measles and influenza are seen regularly on the television these days. Unfortunately, in recent years there has been a faction that has emerged and is very much anti-vaccine. They move forward with their cause with little to no science behind their ideals and that is a dangerous platform to move forward on. Several celebrities with no medical training have decried vaccinations saying they are full of poisons and can cause autism; a claim which has no substance and has been disproven many times over in the scientific community. (Barrett, 2016) The increasingly popular trend of skipping vaccinations for children is endangering not only these unfortunate children, but also children who medically cannot receive vaccines and must rely on others to have immunity. When others do not vaccinate their children, they put children who cannot receive them on high risk of catching them. While vaccinations do have on some rare occasion bad reactions, the benefit of them far outweighs the risk in most cases. Disease like Polio have been wiped from our country because of the use of vaccinations and more could be if people would get their children vaccinated on a set schedule from birth.
