Professional Presence and Influence C351 Introduction Throughout this paper Professional Presence and Influence C351Introduction Throughout this paper, I will examine the role of professional nursing... , and how my personal beliefs and values effect my own practice or nursing. I will differentiate models of health and healing, and how they influence my delivery of care to the patient. I will learn to recognize how my personality affects my professional relationships, and presence. Lastly, I will take a look at how mindful practice can promote healing environments. Professional Presence Models of Health and Healing The models of health do include some similarities, but they are mostly differentiating. I will focus on Era I, the Mechanical model, and Era III, the Body/Mind/Spirit model. The Mechanical model of Era I began to develop in the 1860s at a time when science and medicine were merging (Koerner, 2011). This model determined that health and illness were completely physical in nature, and that consciousness was a result of chemical, anatomic, and physiologic aspects of the brain (Koerner, 2011). This model focused on external influences on the healing body. In the Era III model, the body, mind, and soul is approached as a whole in the healing process. This model focuses on the power of healing from within the mind and soul. The Era I model focuses on treating the physical symptoms, and disregards the mind and soul as being part of the body.
