Healthcare professional often have to deal with potential life altering decisions about another persons health. It can be difficult to make these decisions since it could entail using their own moral values that may not align with the patient or their familys own principles. One of the biggest and most potential life altering decisions deals with vaccinations, not only as adults, but also with their children. Overview of Case Study The case study Incident 10: To Vaccinate, or Not?, Dr. Angela Kerr is the new pediatrician for Ana, a five day old of Jenna and Chris Smith. The Smiths, whom both are college educated, have some hesitancies about vaccinating their child. As the rightful guardians of little Ana, they have the power to make all decisions, including medical ones. After much research and blogging, Anas parents had come to the conclusion to not have Ana vaccinated, as in their eyes, the risks far outweigh the benefits. Dr. Kerr, as a medical professional, explains the vast benefits of having their child vaccinated against diseases, which have claimed many childrens lives over the years.
